Art Styles | Contemporary Explorations in Pointillism

Pixel perfect.

OVERVIEW

This three-hour (yes, you’ll want the extra hour!) beginner’s workshop provides a fascinating introduction to the meticulous, mesmerizing technique of painting with dots, exploring both the scientific foundation of Pointillism and broader contemporary dot techniques.

Participants will learn how to use small, distinct dabs of pure color to create the illusion of form and light, discovering the optical mixing phenomenon that makes the viewer’s eye blend the colors. We’ll cover brush control, color theory, and pattern repetition, resulting in a textural, shimmering artwork that uses systematic dot application to achieve luminous effects and depth without relying on traditional blending.

Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!

PRICING

All classes are $100 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.

  • Pointillism is a painting technique developed by 19th-century neo-impressionist artists where tiny dots of pure color become blended in the viewer's eye at a distance. Each dot adds depth + vibrancy to the artwork, inviting the viewer to step back and marvel at the seamless harmony of the image or pattern they create together. With pointillism, the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.

  • Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886. However, contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Yayoi Kusama have all added their own modern spin on painting with dots.
