Our Story
The Accidental Evolution of Painterly
Painterly was never on our strategic roadmap. It was born out of necessity, right on the gallery floor.
In 2024, our founder, Ireen Brock, launched SOLOSHOW—a multidisciplinary contemporary art gallery and education startup built to make fine art more approachable. As the gallery attempted to launch traditional, rigorous multi-week art history and technical workshops, we noticed an unexpected shift in the community. Patrons didn't have the bandwidth for six-week academic commitments, but they possessed a massive, unmet appetite for short-form, high-intensity creative experiences (2+ hours) that offered real intellectual depth.
They wanted to learn why an art movement mattered. They wanted to experiment with raw techniques like Pointillism, Cubism, or Fauvism. And they wanted to create original compositions they could actually be proud to frame—not just replicate a generic sunset while having a drink.
When we launched our first short-form class, something incredible happened. Students started showing up alone, completely captivated by the creative process. They weren't looking for a chaotic party or social experience; they were looking for a meditative, stimulating creative outlet. More importantly, we watched as the simple act of learning about art history instantly transformed budding creators into passionate art collectors.
We realized we hadn't just built a new class vertical. We had discovered a repeatable, high-impact business model capable of sustaining the creative community from the ground up.
Meet Our Founder
“I watched brilliant, wildly talented artists navigate the challenges of an ever-changing art market, and I realized that traditional gallery walls—while essential—cannot bear the weight of supporting every working creator alone. By expanding how society accesses art education, we can cultivate an entirely new demographic of art appreciators, building a sustainable bridge that ultimately introduces fresh, confident collectors directly to local artists and galleries alike.”
Meet the Founder
Hailing from a lineage of craftspeople, Ireen’s career spans both the creative and the disciplined. Over her journey, she has served as a gallery-represented artist, attorney, operations strategist, brand executive, gallery director, and even a former state trooper, too!
Before founding Painterly, Ireen spent more than 15 years leading business operations, growth strategy, and systemic innovation for global icons including Nike and Virgin—most recently helping scale Nike’s s23NYC team and the SNKRS mobile app in New York.
Recognizing the economic hurdles and visibility barriers that independent creators face, Ireen applied her corporate scaling acumen to build a smarter model for artists, businesses, and art-curious creators. Painterly combines enterprise operational standards with a passion for creative sustainability, operating as a high-touch mobile creative enterprise that is built for national scale.
As Ireen continues to guide the company’s expansion, her core passion remains unchanged—and you will still periodically catch her stepping back into the studio to teach a live class (hope to see you there!).
