Henri Matisse

GOATs | Creative Explorations in the Styles of Matisse

Where the Wild Beast Paints.

OVERVIEW

This two-hour beginner's workshop provides a vibrant introduction to the style of Henri Matisse, focusing on his belief that art should be a source of balance, purity, and serenity.

In this Painterly class, we will study Matisse’s work across his career, from his early Fauvist period—where he used pure, non-naturalistic color for expressive force—to his late-career method of paper cut-outs (découpage). Students will learn to use flat, bold fields of color contained by simple, strong outlines to define form. The class will emphasize compositional arrangement and the power of simplifying complex subjects (like the human figure or organic shapes) down to their most essential and elegant silhouette, resulting in a cohesive and joyful artwork.

Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!

PRICING

All classes are $120 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.
