La-Di-Dada
Art Movements | Contemporary Explorations in the Anti-Art Movements of Dada + Neo-Dada
Everything is art.
OVERVIEW
This two-hour beginner's class explores the irreverent spirit of the Dada and Neo-Dada art movements, focusing on techniques that foster spontaneity and blend everyday life with fine art.
In this Painterly class, we will utilize accessible materials—markers, paint, oil sticks, and collage materials like magazines and newspaper—to create work inspired by the chance operations of Dada and the layered, symbolic collages of Neo-Dada masters like Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. Students will learn methods for integrating newsprint and text as texture, deliberately creating visual noise, and composing with found images to build an expressive, non-linear narrative. The goal is to challenge traditional notions of authorship and composition, resulting in a rich, multi-layered artwork that celebrates absurdity and the messy reality of the world.
Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!
PRICING
All classes are $120 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.

Great question. If you’re not an art history buff, you may never have heard of these important art movements but your perception of art has undoubtedly been influenced by them because, well, what Dada + Neo-Dada make clear is that anything can be art, from a urinal, to a wheel, to flag, and more. Where Dadaism rejected traditional artistic form and practice, Neo-Dadaism acted as a rejection of art altogether . . . while still making art.

Likely in art museums, a lot. Some well-known artists include Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns, best known for his iconic newspaper flags.
