First Impressionism
Movements | Contemporary Explorations in Impressionism
Make an impression.
OVERVIEW
This two-hour beginner's class offers a brilliant, sensory introduction to Impressionism, the revolutionary late-19th-century French movement.
Students will learn how artists like Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir abandoned traditional studios to paint outdoors (en plein air), focusing entirely on capturing the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere. We will cover techniques essential to the style: using short, quick, visible brushstrokes to convey vibration and movement, employing a bright, high-key palette with minimal black, and mastering how to mix colors visually on the canvas rather than on the palette. You will leave with a vibrant landscape or study that captures a vivid sense of a specific moment in time.
Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!
PRICING
All classes are $120 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.

Impressionism is an art movement that proved radical during its time in 19th-century France. Small, visible brushstrokes of unblended color and loose impressions of figurative objects and landscapes defined impressionistic works. To Realists, Impressionism was offensive but it ultimately won over the masses and helped pave new pathways for artistic development.
-
Lots of places, but especially in museums and auction houses. Some well-known Impressionists are so well-known that they don’t even need first names. Renoir, Pissaro, Degas, Manet, Cézanne, Cassatt, Monet . . . yeah, them.

RESCHEDULING | Hosts may request a one-time calendar postponement by contacting us at events@painterly.co at least seven (7) full days prior to the event.
