Lasting Impressionism
Art Movements| Contemporary Explorations of Post-Impressionism
Be Yourself.
OVERVIEW
This two-hour workshop provides a crucial dive into Post-Impressionism, the pivotal late-19th-century movement that pushed beyond Impressionism's focus on fleeting moments and light.
In this class, students will become familiar with the foundational concepts of masters like Van Gogh and Cézanne, learning to prioritize personal expression, structural permanence, and symbolic color over realistic observation. Participants will practice using deliberate, methodical brushstrokes (like hatching), exaggerated form, and intentional, non-naturalistic color palettes to infuse their subjects—such as a still life or portrait—with emotional weight and underlying compositional strength. Students will leave the session with their own unique artwork defined by vivid color and profound expressive depth.
Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!
PRICING
All classes are $100 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.

Great question. Post-Impressionism was crucial because it moved beyond Impressionism's fleeting focus on light and atmosphere to champion subjective, emotional expression and lasting structural form. This pivotal shift fundamentally laid the intellectual and stylistic groundwork for every major 20th-century art movement, including Fauvism, Cubism, and Expressionism.

Likely in museums, but it’s also prevalent in contemporary artwork today . . . so, in short, everywhere you look.
The movement was led by four foundational masters: Paul Cézanne, who sought to bring structure and permanence to Impressionism through simplified geometric forms; Vincent van Gogh, who employed turbulent, expressive brushstrokes and color to convey intense personal emotion; Paul Gauguin, who favored the use of flat color planes and bold outlines to express symbolic or narrative content; and Georges Seurat, who developed the meticulous technique of Pointillism to scientifically control light and color perception.
