Art Movements| Explorations of Street Art
A Colorful State of Mind.
OVERVIEW
This two-hour beginner's class focuses on painting in an expressive street art style, emphasizing speed, raw energy, and direct mark-making.
Drawing inspiration from the calligraphic flow of traditional graffiti (tagging) and the expressive lines of artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, participants will learn how to create a bold, dynamic artwork using simple paint markers, thick brushes, stencils, and spontaneous gestures. The session will cover techniques for layering text and symbols, utilizing heavy outlines, and achieving a raw, textured finish that suggests the energy of the urban environment. You'll focus on developing a quick, personalized visual vocabulary that translates emotion and immediate thought directly onto the canvas.
Painterly Original works will be provided to fuel the creative process and stoke the imagination. No experience or artistic skill required!
PRICING
All classes are $120 per canvas with a ten (10) student class minimum.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to counteract the age of disposable experiences by teaching genuine creative skills. Painterly’s framework promotes the creation of keepsake artwork that carries lasting personal value, rather than becoming clutter. In a world where art is often mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, we offer an affordable and intentional pathway for our students to create their own meaningful, display-worthy creations rooted in solid artistic foundations.

Yes. Although rogue tagging may seem like a nuisance, street art matters to the fine art world because it successfully shattered the institutional barrier between the gallery and the public sphere, forcing the art establishment to recognize art created outside of academic spaces. Furthermore, artists like Basquiat and Haring infused the fine art vocabulary with the raw energy and urgent socio-political commentary of urban culture, drastically expanding the definition of what constitutes valid artistic materials and subjects.

Gosh, it’s everywhere, from museums to advertisements to contemporary design. Street has made an indelible mark on art. Some famous street artists include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Banksy, Futura, Invader, Shepard Fairey, and more.

RESCHEDULING | Hosts may request a one-time calendar postponement by contacting us at events@painterly.co at least seven (7) full days prior to the event. CANCELLATION POLICY | To create an exceptional experience for your group, we begin preparing for your event the moment it’s booked.
